Audio Recordings Can Now Be Electronically Downloaded Within Days of Your Hearing

In recent years, the SSA has implemented a number of online services for claimants’ representatives, including access to our clients’ electronic folders. At LaPorte Law Firm, we have conducted online business for our clients with the SSA since the Appointed Representative Services (ARS) initiative began in 2009. These online services have allowed us to electronically file disability applications and appeals, and in addition we’ve been able to more efficiently file new medical evidence, written legal arguments, and even submit proposed Favorable Decisions for approval by SSA on behalf of our clients.

Beginning August 25, 2012, the SSA’s Office of Electronic Services and Strategic Information implemented a new feature that will allow attorneys and representatives to more quickly obtain audio recordings of our clients’ appeals hearings. Specifically, our offices are now able to download and listen to electronic audio files of their clients’ cases at the Hearings and Appeals levels. The SSA estimates that most recordings of appeals hearings should be available within 48 hours. This access applies to cases that are pending, reactivated or have been closed within the past 90 days. As an enrolled representative with the ARS, we will have more immediate access to audio recordings of our clients’ appeals hearings. We are pleased to be able to offer this added service for our clients.
